Company History

MC Trustees is the successor to the original pensions consultancy company set up by Martin Cadman in 1986.

Also this year: England were knocked out of the World Cup by Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’.
1986
1996

Since 1996 MC Trustees has specialised in the provision of Self Invested Personal Pensions and Small Self Administered Schemes. Originally there was only Martin Cadman and 2 other members of staff.

Also this year: Dolly the sheep, the first cloned animal, was born.

As the company grew more office space was required; so, in 1997, we moved from a serviced office on the Birmingham Business Park to village life in Hampton-in-Arden.

Also this year: The handover of Hong Kong took place, ending over 150 years of British rule.

2001

As we continued to expand we moved again, this time into the unit next door to our original office in Hampton-in-Arden.

Also this year: Dennis Tito, the first space tourist, spent 8 days in orbit.

MC Trustees has always been conscious that we need to give help to others less fortunate. On a trip to Zambia, Martin was lucky enough to visit Kawaza School which was basically a hut without very much going for it. Please see our Charity Page for more information on the charity, and the wonderful work it has done.

Also this year: 30 St Mary Axe, better known as the Gherkin, opened in the City of London.

2006

Although there had been changes to pension legislation over the years one of the significant changes on A Day in 2006 (or Pension Simplification) meant we were able to accept Protected Rights into our SIPPS.

Also this year: The New Horizons probe was launched and began its 9 year journey to Pluto.

In 2009 we launched our Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS) which is based in Malta. Please see our QROPS page or visit our Malta site for more information.

Also this year: Harry Patch, the last remaining survivor of World War One, died aged 111.

2012

In 2012 we were lucky enough to be joined by Michael Smith as Technical Manager. Michael has worked in pensions for over 20 years. He worked at HMRC until mid-2005, where he latterly worked in the Technical section in Nottingham.  His specialisms were personal pensions, drawdown and annuities, benefits and SIPP investments.  He was heavily involved in the Simplification project, and drafted the original Lifetime Allowance, Benefit and Death chapters of RPSM.

Also this year: The 30th Summer Olympic Games were held in London.

We have been working with ex-pats in the US for several years so in 2014 we decided to branch out and provide a SIPP for US Persons.

Also this year: Scotland held an independence referendum and voted to remain part of the UK.
2014
2015

2015 has seen the biggest changes to UK Pension regulations with the introduction of Pension Freedom. To this end we have kept our members fully updated with regular newsletters.

Also this year: NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter discovers evidence of liquid water on Mars.
We are now a team of 25 who have come together from various backgrounds. The one thing we have in common is that we feel MC Trustees is a family.
